We have been in Corpus Christi, Texas for the past month. We were here about 3 years ago. The bay was discovered in1519, by a Spanish explorer named Alonzo Alvarez de Pineda, and today is the sixth largest port in the U.S and deepest inshore port on the Gulf of Mexico.
Lots of oil and agricultural products pass through this port. Corpus Christi is also one of the top ten cities in the U.S.
We are staying at the Colonia Del Ray Campgrounds in the Flour Bluff area of Corpus Christi. If you turn right and right out of campgrounds, you are heading to the bridge over to Padre Island. We enjoy going to Whitecap Beach.
You can park right on the beach; Thumper likes digging in the dunes, Skip likes sitting catching "rays",
and I can usually be found walking along the beach.
One night we went to dinner in town for our anniversary (47 years). We went to the Republic of Texas restaurant which is located at the top of the Omni Hotel. The views of Corpus Christi are great, even at night. There is a small balcony for you to see the views. Our waiters were delightful - they pointed out the various sights (i.e. Pearl Harbor Bridge, various refineries - oil and gas, the USS Lexington (which you can tour), and the marina area. Our meal was great. Skip had steak with a baked potato which was huge.

I had the venison. For dessert, I had their Creme Brulee, which was really good. Loved the State of Texas cookie on top!
since Christmas was coming, did some shopping at a local mall. Crowded!!!!
Christmas Day - 80 degrees so to the beach we went (along with a few others). Very hazy, but fun!!

Went into town another day. Had lunch at Harrison's Landing.

One night we took a ride over to one of the neighborhood's that at Christmas is called "Candy Cane Lane".  All the houses in this neighborhood are decorated for the holidays. Lots of fun to see these decorations!!!!

New Years' - rainy so we stayed put!! In fact, two full days of rain and below normal temperatures for the area.
Went to the movies to see Star Wars at the IMAX and 3-D. Skip fell asleep!! I enjoyed it. That is all I can say. We also saw Point Break, which is remake of the Keanu Reeve-Patrick Swayze movie made awhile ago.  That we enjoy!!! Scenery is spectacular!  Lots of action if you remember. When the rain stops, plan on a few drives around the area.
