Took a ride to the "Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone" area, which from the north heading south took us over the Washburn Range (observation peak at 9,397 ft). One of the guide books informed us that there is hiking up Mount Washburn (10,243 ft) and down to  Yellowstone Lake area. This area is part of the volcanic eruptions of millions of years ago. One of the biggest was approx. 640,000 years ago when the eruption collapsed this middle area of the park forming a 30 to 45 mile caldera (or basin).

There is a massive construction project going on the Chittenden Road (main road you take to get down to the Lake area) so traffic is slow. Didn't think we would be in a traffic jam in a national park.  At least the views are spectacular.

Stopped off at Yellowstone Lake and on the way back met some locals just "hanging out" around the park.
